Do you know the feeling when your heart closes?
When you pull back – out of fear of pain, disappointment, or even life itself?
When you hold back your truth because you’re afraid it’s too much for others or won’t be taken seriously anyway?
Maybe you’ve even built walls around your heart – just to protect yourself.
I know that feeling. And I know how much it can hurt.
Because deep down, our hearts long to be wide open.
Open to love.
To connection.
To life.
Even if it sounds a bit cheesy – living with an open heart is truly beautiful.

An Open Heart – More Than Just Romance
And it’s not just a nice feeling.
An open heart is a state of being that can transform your entire life.
You see, your heart isn’t just an organ.
It’s an energy center. A portal for compassion, peace, and unconditional love.
And maybe you’re someone who believes that love comes from the outside.
That you can only feel love when someone else gives it to you.
When your partner appreciates you.
When your children hug you.
When everything around you is peaceful and harmonious.
But what if that’s not true?
What if real love and true peace always begin within you?
Yes, you can feel love even after your heart has been broken.
You can feel inner peace even when everything around you is in chaos.
Your Heart Reaches Beyond You
From a scientific perspective, the heart is far more powerful than most people think.
According to the HeartMath Institute, it generates an electromagnetic field that extends about three meters beyond your physical body – https://www.heartmath.org.
This field changes with your emotions – and can even influence those around you.
Maybe you’ve experienced this:
You feel suspicious – and suddenly, that’s exactly what the other person mirrors back to you.
Or you approach someone openly – and you’re met with openness in return.
The energy with which you move through life shapes your reality.
Another study shows:
A wide-open heart reduces stress, strengthens emotional resilience, and gives you a deep sense of safety.
Isn’t that reason enough to give it a try?
My Closed Heart
I clearly remember a time when having an open heart still felt new to me.
When I moved to Canada, I thought my English was pretty good – and it was.
But jokes and humor? They were so hard to grasp.
My husband doesn’t speak German, and misunderstandings were inevitable.
In the beginning, all the subtle nuances got lost in translation.
And out of insecurity, I started closing my heart.
I stayed quiet when I didn’t understand something.
I shut down.
But once you’ve experienced the spaciousness of an open heart, closing it again becomes painful. It really hurts.
Because our hearts want to love.
They want to feel.
They want to open – even if it scares us sometimes.
Back to Yourself – With the Heart Check-In
Many years ago, I found my way back to myself – after 16 years of dependency on tranquilizers.
I was numb.
My heart felt trapped.
Until I began to listen into the silence.
That’s when I created a simple, yet powerful practice:
The Heart Check-In.
More than 15,000 people have practiced it since – and for many, it has become a guiding light back to themselves.
Here’s how it works: Place your hands on your heart.
Take a few deep breaths.
And ask yourself:
“What do I need right now, in this moment, to feel happy?”
Sometimes it’s something really simple:
- A glass of water
- A walk in the fresh air
- A short nap
- Or just a few deep breaths
This practice is like an inner compass.
Your heart always knows the answer.
A Meditation to Open Your Heart
If you’d like to go even deeper, join me in a short heart-opening meditation.
Imagine your heart is a dark, stuffy room – and now you’re opening the window.
Light and fresh air begin to flow in.
The tightness fades away.
Find a comfortable seat or lie down.
Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth.
Place one hand on your heart, the other on your belly.
Feel your heartbeat.
Feel that you are safe.
Breathe into your heart space to the count of five.
Hold your breath for five.
Exhale for five.
Hold again for five.
Repeat this rhythm – and imagine warm, golden light flowing into your heart.
With every breath, the light expands.
It flows through your entire body, through every cell.
It wraps around you like a soft, golden cloak.
Gently say to yourself: I am open.
I am love.
I am safe.
Can you feel the shift?
Love Begins With You
