How to ground yourself and feel safe,no matter where you are

Imagine feeling deep inner peace — right now.
Right here, in the middle of your day.
No matter what’s happening around you.

How often do you rush through the day, driven by expectations, overwhelmed by your to-do list, restless on the inside?
Maybe you’re longing for stillness — for a place where you can truly arrive.
But are you still looking for the answer outside of yourself?
Or trying to force it with your mind?

Today, I’d like to invite you to find the answer in your body.
Specifically: in your Root Chakra.

My Personal Story: Between Worlds

In 2021, I made a bold move — I left Europe and emigrated to Canada.
Two days after the borders reopened, in a time of deep uncertainty.
This step into the unknown gave me immense freedom — and at the same time, a lingering sense of being unrooted.

Even though I love coming back to Europe regularly, each transition is a challenge.
The jet lag isn’t just physical — it feels like a crack between two worlds.
My mind arrives in Europe long before my body does.
And so I’m neither fully here, nor there.

But one thing has helped me return to myself again and again:
My Root Chakra.

I’ve tried many methods, but the one that works most powerfully for me is: grounding.

What Are Chakras?

If you’re new to this topic: chakras are energy centers in your body, aligned along your spine.
You can imagine them like small spinning wheels that distribute your life energy — also called prana.

In many Asian cultures, chakra work is an essential part of healing and daily life.
And here in Canada, this wisdom is slowly spreading as well.

The Root Chakra is the very first chakra, located at the base of your spine.
It’s responsible for inner peace, safety, stability, and grounding.

When it’s blocked, you may feel insecure, anxious, or “between two worlds.”
Especially when dealing with jet lag, stress, or major life transitions, the Root Chakra plays a vital role.

Grounding: Where Science Meets Spirituality

At first, “grounding” might sound like a purely spiritual practice.
But today, there’s plenty of scientific research backing it up.

Walking barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, or forest floor has been shown to reduce cortisol levels — our main stress hormone — and soothe the nervous system.

And here’s why that matters:
When your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, you can’t grow or evolve.

We can only be in one of two states: stress mode or growth mode.
Never both at the same time.

Grounding helps shift us out of survival — and back into presence, into calm, into inner power.

Signs Your Root Chakra May Be Blocked

How can you tell if your Root Chakra is out of balance?
Here are some common signs:

  • You feel anxious or nervous
  • You’re restless and constantly on edge
  • You struggle with sleep or experience intense jet lag
  • You have trouble focusing
  • You feel lower back pain or digestive discomfort

If that sounds familiar — you’re not alone.
And the good news is: there’s a way back.

Common Grounding Mistakes

Maybe you’ve tried grounding before — but didn’t feel a difference?
It’s often about how we practice:

  • Once isn’t enough. Grounding is like brushing your teeth — it needs to happen regularly.
  • Mental grounding isn’t enough. Your body needs to move. Your breath needs to slow. Your presence needs to deepen.
  •  “Quick fixes” don’t work. Grounding is an invitation to slow down — a true reset for your nervous system.

And yes, I fall into this trap too:
“But I grounded myself yesterday! Why am I so unsettled today?”

The truth is: grounding is an act of daily self-care.
Not a magic trick.

A Grounding Practice For Your inner peace

Let’s do a simple grounding exercise — something you can practice anytime, anywhere:

Stand barefoot — ideally on grass, sand, or soil.
Inhale deeply through your nose… and exhale slowly through your mouth.
Imagine strong roots growing from your feet into the earth. Deep. Steady. Holding.
Place your right hand under your left armpit, and your left hand on your right shoulder. Gently rock side to side.
Visualize your roots connecting with others — a web of stability. You are not alone.

And now, repeat after me — out loud or silently:

I am safe.
I am safe.
I am safe.

Can you feel your body softening?
Your breath deepening?
Your heart opening?

Welcome back. To yourself.

Final Thought: Your Inner Peace Is Always Within Reach

No matter where you are — physically or emotionally — your body can become your safe place.
You can return to your roots, your center, every single day.

In a world that spins faster and faster,
your Root Chakra is your anchor.

Trust yourself.
Begin with small, consistent steps.
Take off your shoes. Feel the ground. Breathe.

You’ll notice:
Calm is not a coincidence. Calm is a choice.
