Why I Got My Husband’s Name Tattooed at 50

I never thought I’d be the kind of person to get a tattoo. I certainly did not know that tattoos are energetic portals.

To be honest, I used to carry a quiet judgment about them. I spent years working in the luxury industry, where flawless skin was practically part of the job description. Tattoos? That was for someone else. Not me.

And then came my 50th birthday. And with it, something I can only describe as a deep, spiritual yes.

I had my husband’s name tattooed on my forearm. Large. Bold. In beautiful Art Deco lettering:
Come, come, David, come, come.

A Tattoo of Gratitude, Not Possession

People often ask me: Why?

The answer isn’t found in romance—it lives in reverence. This man was part of my deepest transformation. David is a hypnotherapist, and he stood beside me during the journey of healing the darkest moments of my life. Not as a savior. But as a mirror. As I moved through my own dark night of the soul, he held the space. Steady. Present. Awake.

And as I remembered who I truly am, something inside me stirred. A longing not to claim or keep—but to honor. To wear this chapter of my life on my skin.

Tattoos Are Energetic Portals

Back then, I had no idea what I know now: Tattoos are energetic portals.

They’re more than ink on skin. They’re seals. Symbols. And they link us to a specific frequency—an image, a person, a story. Even when a tattoo fades or is removed, the energetic imprint remains. Your field remembers. Until your last breath.

That’s why it matters so deeply what energy is present when the tattoo is created.

Tattoos Born in Pain—and What They Store

Many people get tattoos when they’re grieving, angry, or lost. But anything created in pain carries that vibration—permanently. Tattoos don’t just hold pictures. They hold emotions.

If your tattoo was born in heartbreak, loss, or longing, feel into it. Does it still feel neutral? Or is there an emotional residue lingering in your body?

And what about the tattoo artist? Their emotional and energetic state—their consciousness—flows into your system. You don’t just connect to a symbol. You also connect to the human who delivered it onto your skin.

My First Tattoo as a Rite of Passage

This wasn’t a spontaneous act. My tattoo was the end of a long, inner journey.

Just before I turned 50, I integrated one of my deepest traumas. For the first time in my adult life, I felt dignity. Peace. Wholeness. And I knew: I am not the woman I once was.

Then the impulse came. I wanted to wear his name. Not out of romance—but as a sign. A remembrance. This man didn’t save me. But he was there. When I was remembering who I truly am.

And here’s the wildest part:

I met David during the lockdown. I was in Germany, he was in Canada. For 10 months, we couldn’t see each other in person. The borders were closed. And yet—I got the tattoo before we ever met face to face.

Because his presence was already a part of my healing. Because my inner child—my little Annie—had whispered again and again during hypnosis sessions:
Come, come, David.

Spiritual Tattoos in Other Cultures

I live in Canada now. And here, tattoos hold a different meaning.

Among the First Nations—and in many other Indigenous traditions worldwide—tattoos are sacred. They symbolize connection to ancestors, deities, transitions, and power. Getting a spirit animal tattoo, for example, is not just aesthetic. It’s an energetic agreement.

When you tattoo an owl, a wolf, or a bear—you invite their essence in. But it’s not just about receiving strength. It’s a mutual exchange. You gain their power—but you also offer something in return.

Which animal would you choose—and why? Let me know in the comments.

Three Questions to Ask Before Getting a Tattoo

If you’re thinking of getting a tattoo yourself, here are three powerful questions to consider:

1. What do I want to invite into my life?

Strength? Memory? Healing? Choose a symbol instead of a word. Words like “Love” or “Hope” can easily become imprinted with the pain of the process. Tattoos can hurt. And your body might remember: Love = Pain. That’s not the frequency you want to carry.

2. Who is doing the tattoo—and what energy are they in?

Feel into the artist. Do you feel trust? Calm? Ease? Their energy enters your field during the session. Schedule a consultation. Feel the chemistry. And trust your instincts.

3. Is this symbol truly mine?

Here’s a simple test: Print your design on tattoo transfer paper. Wear it for 7–10 days as a temporary tattoo. Notice your thoughts, emotions, dreams. Does it feel light, empowering, clear? Or unsettling and confusing? Your body knows.

And What About Names?

Many spiritual teachers warn against name tattoos. A name is specific. It creates a direct energy link between you and that person—permanently.

And still—I chose to do it.

Because I was sure. Because it didn’t come from attachment—but from gratitude.

For me, it’s an anchor. A symbol of healing. Tattoos are energetic portals that remind me who I’ve become.

Final Thoughts: A Tattoo Is Never Just a Picture

Maybe you already have a tattoo. Maybe you’re planning one. Or maybe you’re still thinking, like I once did: “Tattoos? Never.”

What I want to offer today is not a judgment. But an invitation to awareness.

A tattoo can be an act of remembrance.
A rite of passage.
A sacred yes to your own story.

But it is never just a picture.
Tattoos are energetic portals.
A declaration.
An invitation to life itself.
